The choice of Chinese as the second language in the curriculum for the Pascal Linguistic High School has been a key aspect of the program's commitment to providing students with an education that extends beyond Europe. The Confucius Institute of the University of Turin<\/a> will partner with the Pascal High School in this new curriculum.<\/p>\n

While English is the most widespread language, Chinese is undoubtedly the most widely spoken (15% of the world's population), taking first place as the world's first language by number of native speakers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Furthermore, recent studies have shown that learning a language like Chinese<\/strong> stimulates the cognitive development of young students, improving problem-solving skills, creativity, and mental flexibility.<\/p>\n

Studying Chinese<\/strong> will allow students to experience a culture that is thousands of years old, fostering open-mindedness, an understanding of cultural differences, and an appreciation for diversity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

New Chinese course for beginners in collaboration with the Confucius Institute<\/span><\/h2>\n

From October 2024 until May 2025, an extracurricular Chinese course for absolute beginners (HSK 1 level) will be offered in collaboration with the Confucius Institute of the University of Turin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinese course is open to all students aged 14 and over, with no age limit. Classes will be held every Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Liceo Pascal in Chieri for a total of 43.5 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Course objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Acquisition of adequate pronunciation skills (study of Pinyin and tones).<\/span>
\n2. Acquisition of the basics of Chinese writing, including the ability to read and write approximately 200 characters.<\/span>
\n3. Ability to introduce oneself in Chinese, make acquaintances and exchange pleasantries, ask for information about the person being interviewed, times, dates, and directions, and make purchases.<\/span>
\n4. Preparation for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Level 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lessons will be alternated as follows: two grammar and syntax lessons taught by an Italian teacher specializing in Chinese and a conversation lesson taught by a native Chinese teacher from East China Normal University in Shanghai, both in collaboration with the Italian teacher, who can help students understand the Chinese instructions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Knowledge of the Chinese language can therefore represent a competitive advantage in the future world of work<\/strong>: being able to communicate with Chinese business partners, for example, can facilitate negotiating agreements and build relationships of trust.<\/p>\n

China is also one of the world's top tourist destinations<\/strong>. Knowledge of the Chinese language can make the travel experience richer and more rewarding: Chinese-speaking children can interact with locals, discover the country's culture and history more deeply, and fully appreciate the wonders China has to offer.<\/p>\n

Studying the Chinese language can also stimulate children's cognitive development<\/strong>, as it is very different from European languages, featuring a character-based writing system and tonal pronunciation. These characteristics require a different approach to learning and can help children develop cognitive skills such as memory, concentration, and mental flexibility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, learning Chinese can promote intercultural understanding<\/strong>. Chinese culture is rich in traditions, history, and unique values<\/strong>. Studying the language can help children better understand the Chinese mindset and perspectives, fostering tolerance and open-mindedness. This cultural awareness can be a valuable skill in an increasingly interconnected and multicultural world.<\/p>\n

Finally, learning Chinese can be a fun and rewarding experience for children<\/strong>, as it can be an exciting way to explore new sounds, words, and ways of communicating. Children can become enthusiastic about learning Chinese characters, singing Chinese songs, and participating in cultural activities such as calligraphy or traditional Chinese dance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
